Ever noticed that sometimes you don’t get a missed call notification?

It might seem like a network issue, but in most cases, it comes down to how your phone’s settings handle incoming calls.

Features like Call Waiting and your device’s notification settings play a big role in whether missed calls show up on your screen.

It’s easy to think it might be a network issue. However, in most cases if you’re missing call alerts, it’s simply your device's settings. Good news! It’s usually a quick fix once you know where to look.

Here’s how it works and how you can make sure you never miss a call without knowing it.


What Is Call Waiting and How Does It Work?

Call Waiting is a feature built into most phones that lets you know when someone is trying to call you while you’re already on another call.


When Call Waiting is ON:

  • You’ll hear a beep or see a notification while you’re on a call.

  • You can choose to answer the second call, swap between calls, or ignore it.


When Call Waiting is OFF:

  • The second caller will either go to voicemail or hear a busy signal.

  • Your phone might not show a missed call notification because the call never “reached” your device while it was busy.


How To Make Sure You’re Getting Missed Call Alerts

Here’s what you can do right now:

Turn On Call Waiting

  • iPhone: Settings > Phone > Call Waiting

  • Android: Open your Phone app > Settings > Supplementary Services > Call Waiting


Check Your Notification Settings

Make sure your phone is set to show call alerts and missed call notifications.


Disable Do Not Disturb Mode

Check that Do Not Disturb isn’t blocking your alerts when you’re on a call.


Test It Out

Try calling yourself from another phone while you’re on a call and see if you get a notification or a missed call alert.
